Suppliers invited to Meet the Buyer event

Suppliers from across the North Wales Region are being urged to attend a ‘Meet the Buyer’ event on Wednesday, 7 October, ahead of the start of a project to deliver a 45.7MW solar park in Deeside.

The event, to be held at Connah’s Quay Civic Hall, Deeside from 10am-6pm, will seek local businesses and tradesmen to work on the project to provide a solar photovoltaic turnkey solution for Atem Solar, part of the long-standing Compton Group from South Wales.

Suppliers will have the chance to meet the Shepherd Engineering Services team, which is the proposed contractor for the project, to learn more about the project and discuss the various services and supply requirements that local supply chain could provide to this landmark £40m project.

Planning consent was given by Flintshire County Council Planning Department in June 2015 for a 45.7MW solar park at Weighbridge Rd, Connah’s Quay and it is anticipated that the proposal will have the potential to generate up to 45,000 MWh of power annually. This equates to the annual energy consumption of approximately 11,000 households.

The Solar Farm project will comprise ground-mounted solar panel modules and the associated electrical connection infrastructure to allow the power to be used directly by the Paper Mill adjacent to the site.

The constructed facility will be retained by Atem Solar as an asset and in its ownership for the duration of its lifecycle of providing clean renewable energy for the local industry.

David Mason, Executive Business Director at Shepherd Engineering Services commented: “As we move forward through the process as preferred contractor for this exceptional scheme, we recognise that collaboration with the local supply chain and the wider community is of paramount importance.

We have organised this Meet the Buyer event because we’re committed to ensuring that this project incorporates the very best of North Wales’ talent.

“We’re determined to deliver smart and technically advanced solar solutions through collaboration, innovation and excellence so we look forward to welcoming North Wales suppliers to our Meet the Buyer event.”
