Co-op opens Bedlington site creating 23 new jobs

The Co-op Group has opened a new Bedlington site, continuing its expansion programme of creating new convenience stores in the North East.

The store, based on the site of the former Ridge Farm Pub, Netherton Lane, has revitalised the community and created 23 new jobs.

The Co-op Group announced last year that it was actively looking to acquire new sites across the region, with plans to open a total of 100 new stores across the UK to strengthen its position as a convenience food retailer.

North East commercial agent and chartered surveying firm Bradley Hall identified the site and acted on behalf of Co-op to acquire the new premises.

Senior surveyor Tim Aisbitt said: “This new investment and development reflects Co-op’s commitment to growth and confidence in the region.

“It’s great to see sites such as this being revitalised by a new operator. Co-op is not only breathing life into redundant buildings but is also helping improve the local community and environment, whilst also creating new jobs.

“This acquisition is further proof of the strength of the commercial property market in the North East. For Bradley Hall it represents another successful project with Co-op.”

Earlier this year Bradley Hall secured the former social club site in Pegswood, near Morpeth, for a new build convenience store.
