TIBCO Offers More Data Discovery and Advanced Analytics

At Strata + Hadoop World, TIBCO Software Inc., a global leader in integration, analytics, and event processing, announced the availability of TIBCO Spotfire® Cloud’s data discovery and advanced analytics connector to Apache Spark™ SQL, along with the industry’s first commercial integration with SparkR. Certified by Databricks, the Apache Spark project’s steward, TIBCO’s direct connector to Spark™ SQL and engine-level integration with SparkR provides data scientists and business users with a flexible, seamless, and easy way to query, analyse, and visualise Apache Hadoop® data. Coupled with the existing Databricks-certified TIBCO Jaspersoft® Spark integration, TIBCO Analytics provides a unique cradle-to-grave data discovery, analytics, and reporting capability that enables business-critical analytics to be readily developed and embedded throughout the enterprise.

“By delivering fast and intuitive direct access to Apache Spark data sources, we are bridging a prominent gap between big data and data discovery,“ said Brian Gentile, SVP & GM, TIBCO Analytics. “Our customers, ranging from casual analysts to seasoned data scientists, are excited about the out-of-the-box Spark capability in Spotfire® that also integrates with SparkR and delivers rapid insights on Hadoop® data. Fundamentally, we are extending the value of Hadoop data to a much larger audience through Spotfire and R with the speed of Spark.“

To complement the visualisation of big data via Spark SQL, Spotfire customers can now leverage the analytic power of Spark combined with the deeper insights available through predictive, geospatial, and event-based analytics. “Spotfire customers can now use SparkR through the high-performance TIBCO® Enterprise Runtime for R (TERR) engine that is also embedded in Spotfire and other TIBCO products. This means that business analysts and users everywhere can run high-value analytics on big data via Spark from simple-to-use Spotfire interfaces and templates,“ said Michael O’Connell, chief data scientist, TIBCO. “And because SparkR now runs with TERR, customers can rapidly solve bigger, more complex analytical problems on their existing Spark clusters, driving extreme value in many core business applications.“

The Spark SQL direct connector is now generally available in TIBCO Spotfire Cloud, and will also be incorporated in the next TIBCO Spotfire® on-premises release. To download a free trial of Spotfire Cloud and for any help getting started or to obtain a driver, simply visit http://spotfire.tibco.com.

“We welcome TIBCO’s support of Spark,“ said Kavitha Mariappan, VP, marketing, Databricks. “Directly connecting Spotfire Cloud with Apache Spark SQL is an affirmation of the growing importance of the Apache Spark framework. And because the connector is now incorporated into the Spotfire Cloud application, TIBCO’s Spark SQL connector will encourage business analytics users to visualise Spark data for their purposes, further expanding the usefulness of the framework and effectively growing the community.“

Attendees at Strata + Hadoop World New York September 22-October 1 are invited to stop by the TIBCO booth (#650) to learn more about TERR, Spotfire Cloud, and self-service access to Apache Spark SQL.
