Hermes Warrington to process 1m parcels daily following £10m upgrade
German parcel delivery firm Hermes has ramped up the capacity of its Warrington hub with the installation of a secondary sortation tier, allowing it to process as many as one million parcels every day.
With work now complete on the new tier, which cost Hermes £10m, the firm has said it plans to create 400 jobs during the peak parcel delivery periods to support its Warrington facility.
SHD Logistics reported that Hermes will use the extra processing power to fuel its plans for international growth.
According to SHD Logistics, the chief operating officer of Hermes, Martijn de Lange, said: “With the significant growth in e-commerce, and the emergence of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the supply chain industry remains under continual pressure to increase capacity.
“This additional investment will ensure that retailers can continue to have full confidence in Hermes’ ability to provide exceptional levels of service at all times, especially during the upcoming peak season, and for many years to come.”
Speaking further, Martijn said the firm’s preparation for this year’s peak season began as soon as the peak season in 2014 ended.
He continued: “During the peak season we will also have 200 additional advisors across 19 client sites to deal exclusively with any enquiries; 3,000 more couriers and our money back delivery guarantee campaign will also return this Christmas.”
