Renewables Are On The Rise
More than a quarter of the UK’s electricity came from renewables this spring, official figures show. (1)
And for Blubberhouses-based green energy specialists Yorkshire Heat Pumps, this is just another sign that sustainability is on the increase.
Said md Michael Wright: “The UK is generating a growing share of its power from renewable sources – we are talking large scale wind farms, bioenergy plants, hydro and solar.”
The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has just released figures which show that 25.3 per cent of electricity generated between April and June this year came from renewable sources – that’s a rise of 8.6 percentage points on the same quarter last year.
And Yorkshire Heat Pumps saw a surge of interest in renewables for heating homes during the same quarter.
Said Michael: “After having been really busy with biomass installations last year, this spring saw interest surge in ground source heat pumps.
“The government has encouraged green energy for heating through its Renewable Heat Incentive scheme and the payback on ground source and air source heat pumps and solar thermal panels remains attractive.
“We are still getting unprecedented levels of interest in heat pumps, which is good news for the environment and for the householders who are set to enjoy the benefits of sustainable heating long into the future.”
The domestic RHI scheme covers biomass and solar thermal technologies, ground source and air source heat pumps. Domestic RHI pays you a set tariff for every kW hour of energy required to heat your home and is paid at the prevailing rate at the time of accreditation, for seven years.
“But it makes sense to act fast.” said Michael. “The biomass tariff has dropped four times in the last year, and heat pump tariffs could start to fall at any time. Combine that with an expected April VAT increase from 5% to 20% for domestic installations, and homeowners could be missing out on a great opportunity.”
Yorkshire Heat Pumps is a leading regional installer of renewable energy heating systems including biomass boilers, ground source and air source heat pumps, based at Blubberhouses, near Harrogate.
