BAM named as preferred contractor for £16m Warrington project
UK contractor BAM Construction has been named as the preferred company to deliver the £16m transformation of Warrington’s Sankey Leisure Centreinto a community hub.
With phase one of the construction work set to start at the beginning of November, the project will overhaul the centre’s interior to make it an integrated facility for health, leisure and cultural services in west Warrington.
BAM’s construction director, Ian Fleming, said: “It’s very important to us to deliver this project successfully for the whole community, and not just to build a fantastic facility but to make the opportunity of the build itself into a positive experience for them.
“We’re really looking forward to engaging people and creating something that will truly enhance the lives of everybody who lives here.”
Once complete, the centre will include a fitness suite, sports hall, 3G pitches, tennis courts and swimming pools, as well as a library, spa, cafe and GP surgeries.
Parts of the site delivered in the first phase are expected to open in Autumn 2016.
LiveWire MD Jan Souness said: “We are pleased to announce the appointment of BAM as the contractor to carry out the development of the existing Great Sankey Leisure Centre to transform it into a modern integrated facility for the whole community.
“BAM have a wealth of experience in delivering large construction projects and LiveWire are looking forward to working with them to ensure the build meets the needs of the ageing popular in the area.”
BAM recently delivered a number of large projects across the North West, including The National Graphene Institute and Manchester City Football Academy.
