Coda completes latest phase of education centre project

AWARD winning Sheffield architectural practice Coda Studios has completed the latest phase of major redevelopment for a leading Peak District children and young people’s outdoor activity facility.

The Hollowford Centre, which is based at the edge of Castleton, is managed by the Lindley Educational Trust and for more than 40 years has used outdoor activities for the development of children and young people.

The Trust specialises in helping youngsters through some of life’s transitions, primary to secondary school, school into employment or higher education and moving into a leadership role at work.

Hollowford has facilities for groups of between 10 and 130 people and in 2013 a £400,000 refurbishment and extension of the centre’s accommodation facilities created nine new bedrooms, including one specially adapted for wheelchair disabled use.

Now the latest phase of the ambitious project, the creation of a new glazed frontage, with improved disabled wheelchair access and better storage facilities and interior and exterior seating areas, has been completed

The project was designed and overseen by Stuart Young, Design Director at award winning Sheffield architectural practice Coda Studios.

“We have worked closely with the Lindley Educational Trust for many years now, winning awards for our work on the site, and we are delighted that we were asked back for this latest stage in Hollowford’s development,” said Stuart.

“Because of its place right in the heart of the Peak District we always have to work closely with the Peak Park planners to create something that is totally in keeping with the surroundings, including the use of locally sourced building materials, including natural stone in keeping with other buildings in the area.

“Now this latest phase has been completed we can look forward to the start of the next major Hollowford project, continuing to create something that speaks about the ethos of the organisation and which also blends in with the surrounding landscape.”
