Home Bargains owner chooses Pochin’s for multi-million pound HQ expansion

Liverpool firm TJ Morris has appointed a construction company to deliver three new buildings at its head office complex.

TJ Morris, which owns and operates the Home Bargains chain of discount stores, awarded the multi-million pound deal for the 103,000 sq ft development to North West-based Pochin’s Ltd.

The contract, worth more than £10m, will see Pochin’s extend TJ Morris’ existing base at Axis Business Park by constructing a 67,000 sq ft warehouse, a 19,000 sq ft gym and leisure facility for employees and a 17,000 sq ft unit for vehicle maintenance.

TJ Morris’ operations director, Joe Morris, said: “As a member of The Sunday Times Fast Track 250, we are constantly looking for ways to improve our offering to our clients as well as our staff.

“These new facilities will significantly enhance our distribution capabilities and we’re delighted to be able to provide these new leisure facilities for our staff.”

He added: “We have been extremely impressed by Pochin’s track record in the North West and we look forward to working with them on this exciting development.”

The project, due for completion by August next year, will also involve Coventry-based AJA Architects.

Pochin Construction’s managing director, Jonathan Pochin, said of the deal: “Securing a project of this size with one of the UK’s largest privately owned companies is testament to the calibre of work Pochin’s is currently undertaking.”

Last month, Pochin’s won a contract to construct a commercial development at Trafford Point and a residential project in the Castlefield area of Manchester.

Jonathan continued: “This is our third £10m+ contract in a matter of weeks, and we’re extremely pleased to see our project pipeline expanding with industrial, residential and commercial properties across the North West.”
