Event to boost York’s buy to let market

A FREE ‘drop-in’ surgery is being held in York next month (Nov) to help boost the city’s residential buy-to-let market as tenants’ needs change.

Prospective and existing landlords are invited to the surgery, Could You be A Landlord? at estate agents, Hudson Moody, Micklegate, on November 7. Advice on becoming a landlord, opportunities created by new developments in York and recent legislative changes will be provided by managing director, Ben Hudson and the firm’s lettings team. A director of the Independent Mortgage Advice Service, York, James Stanage, will also advise on the financial aspects of becoming a landlord.

Hudson Moody has been active in York’s buy-to-let market for almost 20 years and currently has more than 150 managed properties. Ben Hudson says: “The buy-to-let market and attitudes to it are changing. Many young people do not want the burden of a mortgage in an uncertain career market and prefer the flexibility of being able to move around the country taking short lets.

“York’s lettings market is crucial as, without good quality homes for young people, there will not be a diverse economy and, particularly with rising house prices, it will become harder for younger people to live here as highlighted in the recent Centre for Cities report.”

Hudson Moody, which was founded 1996 and has more than 20 staff also has offices in Poppleton and an agent in Dunnington. The firm is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, National Association of Estate Agents, Association of Residential Letting Agents and participates in the Ombudsman For Estate Agents Scheme.

Anyone interested in attending the surgery, which will run from 10am to 2pm, can contact Hudson Moody’s Lettings Department in York on tel: 01904 629629 for further information.
