National gym operator to open Blackpool centre
The Talbot Gateway development in Blackpool is set to welcome a national gym operator to occupy its remaining units.
The firm, which has not been named, will take 17,244 sq ft of space in the units facing onto Talbot Road and Cookson Street.
The town council’s Cabinet Member for Municipal Assets, Cllr Fred Jackson, said: “I am delighted to approve a lease of the remaining units at Talbot Road Multi-Storey Car Park.
“The company that we are working with is a national firm looking to open a gym in the heart of Blackpool town centre.”
He added: “We have had interest from four gym operators and following this approval we will be agreeing a contract with the proposed company.”
A Mr Basrai’s World Buffet restaurant is also due to open in the same building as the new gym, while the council expects to approve another lease for a retail unit at Number One Bickerstaffe Square shortly.
Greg Ball, a development surveyor with council partner firm Muse Developments, said: “We’re delighted to have a national gym operator on board and they will be a big draw for Talbot Gateway.
“The new facility will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing the ultimate in flexibility for people who want to exercise at a time that suits them and we’re really excited to deliver this offering.”
As part of the deal with the national gym operator, the council’s own gym, Gateway Fitness, will close its doors, transferring its equipment to Blackpool Sports Centre.
