Liverpool Mayor leads trade delegation to US
A trade delegation from Liverpool is heading across the Atlantic to attract investors and bring US trade to the city.
Led by Mayor Joe Anderson, the group will visit Birmingham, Atlanta and New Orleans to meet civic leaders, business owners and potential investors.
While in Birmingham, the largest city in Alabama, Mr Anderson will sign a twinning agreement to boost the economy of the Liverpool City Region.
The Mayor said: “We will be promoting Liverpool and its huge investment potential to the cities of Birmingham, Atlanta and New Orleans.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for us to meet with like-minded cities and encourage investment back into Liverpool.”
He added: “By developing relationships with US cities, we are establishing Liverpool firmly on the international stage.”
The delegation, according to destination marketing organisation Marketing Liverpool, is keen to attract investors from Birmingham’s life sciences sector. Reportedly worth $2bn, it comprises more than 100 businesses and a number of them already operate in the Liverpool City Region, including biopharmaceutical firm Bristol-Myers Squibb.
Max Steinberg, the chief executive of regeneration company Liverpool Vision, commented: “Liverpool is an international city, and we are continuing to work closely with the USA to attract investment and create trade opportunities for Liverpool businesses.
“Through relationships with cities such as Atlanta, Birmingham and New Orleans, we are confident that new investment opportunities will be created for Liverpool in the South East USA.”
