New retailers branch out to Newcastle’s Intu Eldon Square
A raft of new retailers are opening stores at Newcastle’s Intu Eldon Square, bringing new jobs to the city ahead of the busy Christmas season.
Scotland’s largest independent travel firm Barrhead Travel will create 20 jobs with the launch of a 1,500 sq ft flagship store, located at the shopping centre’s busiest entrance, near Northumberland Street.
Like Barrhead, Danish variety chain Tiger is opening its first store in the North of England, which will be located at the 2,500 sq ft site of the former Footlocker unit and will open in late November.
A new neighbour just across the mall to Barrhead Travel at the Northumberland Streetentrance will be a new Specsavers store, adjacent to Vision Express. Other new stores opening before the end of the year on the former Monsoon site include jewellers Goldsmiths Boutique and Thomas Sabo, as well as footwear specialists Skechers and foreign exchange outlet The Change Group.
New stores recently opened in centre include children’s stationer Smiggle, KIKO Milano cosmetics, and clothing brand Ratchet.
Ben Cox, Senior Asset Manager, intu Eldon Square, commented that stores such as Tiger are ‘a great coup for intuEldon Square’.
He added: “The countdown to Christmas is on, and UK High Streets are showing their best figures for seven months. intu Eldon Square is one of the largest city centre shopping destinations in the UK, and its vibrancy is demonstrated by the number of new retailers keen to be part of our success.”
Mike Davis, Director, Tiger, said: “Tiger is excited to come to intu Eldon Sq with our first store in the North of England. We are an exciting brand which offers a surprising and magical experience which we are sure will be a big hit with the Geordies.
“We are a Danish heritage brand which sells everything for the home and more at highly affordable prices and amazing value for money. We look forward to meeting all our future customers when we open at the end of November, just across the mall from Game and Clintons, and encourage shoppers to make a date and see what delights are in store - we are sure they won’t be disappointed.”
The new stores will be joined by 20 food operators including Bella Italia, Giraffe, TGI Fridays, Chiquito, Tapas Revolution & Ed’s Easy Diner in the new Grey’s Quarter, which opens in autumn 2016.
