Mitchells ‘Wear it Pink’ for Breast Cancer Now

Staff at Chesterfield-based Mitchells Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers wore pink recently to show their support for a colleague undergoing treatment for cancer and to raise money for charity.

Pink feather boas, slippers, ties, jackets, shirts, skirts, tops, shoes and wigs were all donned by the team to raise money for Breast Cancer Now, the UK’s largest breast cancer charity which funds vital research into the devastating disease.

They gathered outside the firm’s offices on Saltergate to show off their pink efforts on Wear it Pink day on Friday 23 October. By 9.30am on the day the team had smashed their original fundraising target of £400, instead raising a total of £595.

There was a far more serious reason the team were in the pink however, as they also wanted to show their support for colleague Helen Wilkinson, who was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma earlier this year and is currently undergoing treatment.

As well as raising money through the JustGiving page, generous donations were collected at the firm’s office from clients and staff, including the previous evening’s pub quiz winnings of Tom Hardy, Mitchells’ undergraduate accountant.

Richard Trueman, Managing Partner at Mitchells explained: “It was a tremendous fundraising effort from all the team and our many clients who kindly donated. Celebrating Wear it Pink was our way of not only supporting our colleague but also the thousands of other people diagnosed with this terrible disease each year.”

Every year, Wear it Pink raises around £2 million during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, by asking people to wear something pink and donate whatever they can. Since the very first wear it pink event in 2002, more than £27 million has been raised to fund world-class research, across the UK and Ireland.
