Global accolade for fast-growing Teesside studio
A TEESSIDE firm has been recognised as one of the best web design and development studios in the world by global online platform WordPress.com. Middlesbrough-based Big Bite Creative has become one of only 10 web agencies in the world – and just two in the UK – to be chosen for the WordPress.com VIP Partner programme.
The accolade recognises companies doing exemplary work using the WordPress platform – on which a quarter of the world’s websites are built.
It will give the fast-growing North East business the opportunity to work with some of the biggest technology-led brands on the planet, including Facebook, Spotify and Microsoft. Big Bite Creative was launched by four Teesside University graduates in 2011 after they each struggled to find employment amid tough economic conditions.
They set about creating their own opportunities and their business quickly flourished, landing a number of major clients including Middlesbrough Football Club, Teesside University’s Student Union and Middlesbrough Council.
Today the business employs eight people at its base in Middlesbrough’s Boho One building and now has a global presence, with 60% of revenues coming via the US market.
Natalie Larkin, who founded the business alongside Iain McPherson, Jason Agnew and Mark Goodyear, said: “Joining the WordPress.com VIP programme will definitely help to increase our international trade, which already makes up the majority of our revenue streams.” Mark Goodyear added: “The North East, and Teesside in particular, is often unfairly overlooked in our industry, usually in favour of bigger cities, but we’re proud to say our current team is made up entirely of local talent. As we grow, we’ll be looking to put Teesside on the map with even more talent from the area.”
