Scholarship honours a ‘giant of North East Hospitality’

Ramside Hall Hotel and Golf Club, County Durham’s leading 36-hole golf resort, has established a new scholarship for junior golfers in honour of former company chairman, the late Michael Adamson M.B.E.

The Michael Adamson Junior Golf Scholarship honours the legacy of a man who oversaw the development of Ramside’s four star hotel and country estate into one of the finest golf facilities in North East England

The scholarship will be awarded annually to two boys and two girls, aged 12 to 16, from North East England.

The scholars will receive membership at Ramside Golf Club, use of its two championship courses, golf academy and driving range and a personalised golf coaching program from Head PGA Professional Kevin Jackson.

Helen Roseberry, director of golf, said: “It is a huge thrill to officially launch the new Michael Adamson Scholarship for Junior Golf at Ramside.

It is named in honour of my father Michael, who passionately believed in providing opportunity for deserving people in all areas of the Ramside Estates business.

Our company is rich in stories of people who joined in junior roles, like pot washing and housekeeping, and grew into Head Chefs and Hotel Managers.

We wanted to do the same with junior golf and provide young people with a springboard to achieve great things in a sport which brings so much pleasure to so many people.“

The inaugural winners of the Michael Adamson Junior Golf Scholarship were chosen following an application process and a golf skills testing day.

They are Lewis Reay (Ramside Hall Hotel and Golf Club), Duran Gun (George Washington Golf and Country Club), Gabrielle Dickinson (Houghton-Le-Spring Golf Club) and Kitana Hollins (Ramside Hall Hotel and Golf Club).

Kevin Jackson, Head PGA Professional, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Kitana, Lewis, Duran, and Kitana as our first-ever junior golf scholars and I’m excited to help develop them both as golfers and as people. We hope that they will all become positive role models for other young people who are keen to take up this great sport.”
