Hawkins\Brown collaborates with Ferrious on new Northern Quarter studio
London-headquartered architectural practice Hawkins\Brown has created a new studio in Manchester’s Northern Quarter with the help of interior design firm Ferrious.
As part of the refurb, Ferrious installed a bespoke kitchen and a recycled scaffold plank table from designer Gianluca Mingolla, as well as storage systems created by furniture manufacturer Hay of Denmark.
Hawkins\Brown partner Katie Tonkinson, who heads the new Tariff Street office, said: “We wanted to create something special here in Manchester and we have been planning, designing and building our studio for just over a year now, so it’s really great to finally open our ‘home’ in the city.
“Ferrious was the perfect choice to collaborate with, being right here on our new doorstep, and we knew that they understood that we wanted to make a statement.”
She added: “Our new studio’s shop front features our architects ‘on show’, just one element of what is an inspiring working environment reflecting our collaborative, forward thinking and youthful ethos.”
The refurb also included items of furniture and lighting designed and manufactured by British and European firms Moooi, Vitra, Punt and Anglepoise.
Ferrious co-founder Paul Tempest commented: “It was an exciting project to work on as the studio has a fun and creative vibe reflecting the practice’s way of working.
“The studio is a shop front to show potential clients the team’s creative thinking, so it needed to be striking and memorable. Having got to know Hawkins\Brown on other projects, we knew they had the courage to make a splash on their arrival in Manchester.”
He added: “We look forward to the chance of collaborating with them in the future.”
The two firms have a history of collaboration, having worked together on a project to furnish the glass house of Manchester International Festival in the city’s Albert Square.
