Wigan residents encouraged to shape borough’s economic future

Authorities in Wigan are inviting members of the public to have their say over plans to establish new homes and space for businesses across the borough.

Wigan Council is due to gather the views of residents on its Allocations Plan, which details where retail and commercial space will be developed and new houses built between now and 2026.

The Allocations Plan outlines 64 sites for housing, primarily across the central core of the borough, as well as four sites for businesses and additional residential property.

Cllr David Molyneux, the cabinet member for regeneration at Wigan Council, said: “This is an important plan which will help form the development of the borough for many years to come.

“It is therefore crucial that members of the public view and have their say on the proposals.”

The council intends to establish almost 500 acres of new employment land in the next 10 years.

Cllr Molyneux continued: “By creating this plan Wigan Council is taking a proactive approach so we can achieve the environmental, social and economic regeneration that is needed to continue to move the borough forward.”

The public consultation phase, marked by a series of drop-in sessions throughout November, will end on December 15.
