Leeds Fans Utd to find out Massimo Cellino’s price tag
Today, the Leeds Utd supporters group will find the price tag of Massimo Cellino’s majority stake in the club.
Cellino has finally accepted his time at the Championship club is over, and on Friday he told Leeds Fans Utd (LFU) that they can buy his controlling interest in the club.
The Italian businessman previously told BBC Leeds: “100% I will sell to the fans, if they want to buy it and look after the club. The fans are the only asset the club has. I’m sad and embarrassed. My dream was to do my best but I’ve achieved nothing and family aren’t even with me.
“I’m trying to protect the club but at the same time it means I have exposed myself. The result is that the fans say ‘Massimo it’s time to go’.”
Since taking over Leeds 18-months ago, Cellino has dismissed a total of five managers and received two suspensions by the Football League within a year.
For his most recent ban,Cellino filed an appeal against the Football League’s decision last week, but if he is unsuccessful, Cellino will likely be prohibited to have any role as an owner or director of the Leeds United until June 2016, 12 months after the date of his conviction.
Earlier this year, LFU attempted to raise around £10m to buy a minority stake in the lub and secure representation on the board. But if the group wants to buy Cellino’s majority stake, they will have to be prepared to come up with a significantly larger amount.
If LFU is successful in buying out Cellino, Leeds would become the highest placed English club to be owned by fans.
