News Organisation chooses Manchester Company to Build App

PinkNews is Europe’s most-read provider of LGBT news and commentary and this week it launched a brand new app designed and built by the Manchester based firm, Dreamr. PinkNews is a digital publication that covers LGBT news, politics, current affairs, religion, sport, entertainment and travel and the app was launched to coincide with its 10th anniversary.

The brand-new free PinkNews app was launched at the annual PinkNews Awards, held at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London. The Awards recognised the contributions made by politicians, community activists, media personalities and business leaders in advancing the rights of LGBT people in the UK and overseas.

Guests included Former Labour Leader, Ed Miliband; Former First Minster of Scotland, Alex Salmond and the BBC presenter, Victoria Derbyshire. The team from Dreamr were also present for the unveiling of the first new PinkNews App in five years. The team from the North West was instructed to design and produce the globally recognised publication’s app and have worked on the project for seven months.

Dreamr, based in Manchester city centre, is headed up by founder Mylo Kaye who commented:“I am honoured that Dreamr, a Manchester agency, have been given the opportunity to deliver a product to an international audience. PinkNews bypassed London and headed straight to the North West to fulfil their brief and I’m extremely proud of the hardworking Dreamr team, who have improved the app user experience for PinkNews readers.”

The CEO of PinkNews Benjamin Cohen unveiled the app to an audience including the Education Secretary and Minister for Women and Equalities, Nicky Morgan; the Business Secretary, Sajid Javid and the Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Tim Farron.

On the launch, Benjamin Cohen said: “Last month PinkNews achieved over 10 million hits to our website and we’re delighted that our millions of users around the world are now able to view our content in an industry leading app. The iOS and Android apps will keep our readers up-to-date and informed and will also allow users to save and share the stories that mean the most to them. The new app will also be pivotal to PinkNews as it grows and expands internationally.”

Prime Minister David Cameron sent his congratulations to PinkNews for reaching 10 years in a video message saying: “Tonight is a night for celebration…We are celebrating 10 years of Pink News informing, entertaining and campaigning and reaching an incredible audience of 10 million people in the UK, the US and around the world…so congratulations on your 10th birthday and here’s to the next decade of Pink News.”

PinkNews is a UK-based online newspaper marketed to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community (LGBT). It was founded by Benjamin Cohen in 2005 and covers politics, religion, entertainment, finance, and community news for the LGBT community in the UK and worldwide.
