Nuclear power plant builder NuGen grows Manchester presence
Nuclear developer NuGen has almost doubled the size of its Manchester operations after signing up for an additional 12,700 sq ft of space at 3 Piccadilly Place.
The firm, which already occupies 16,218 sq ft on the building’s seventh floor, has taken the entire top level of the city centre property.
NuGen intends to use the new office to manage the development phase of the Moorside Project, which will see a new nuclear power station constructed near the Sellafield facility in western Cumbria.
The firm’s director of corporate affairs, Gary Shuttleworth, said: “The momentum and progress of the Moorside Project, to provide up to 3.6GW of low-carbon electricity - equivalent to 7% of the UK’s future electricity requirements - has seen our organisation rapidly outgrow its current Manchester location.
“We will continue to expand in Manchester and West Cumbria, where the project is about to start an intensive period of Site Characterisation before the next stage of public consultation begins next year.”
International asset management firm The Carlyle Group owns 3 Piccadilly Place and adjacent sister property 4 Piccadilly Place.
Ben Du Boulay, the director of The Carlyle Group, commented: “This additional letting to NuGen underlines our ability to work with our existing occupier clients to continue to fulfil their requirements.
“We have now let 92% of the 300,000 sq ft of offices across the two buildings and the high levels of interest we are seeing for both the remaining office and retail space is an endorsement of the quality of the building and of Manchester’s position at the centre of the Northern Powerhouse.”
