Transformation of Steel City House begins

Demolition and enabling works have now commenced on site for the £5 million redevelopment of Sheffield city centre landmark, Steel City House.

Local developers, Scott’s Developments, acquired the property located on West Street last summer and are set to transform it into Grade A, high-specification office and workspace.

Heading up the comprehensive project is John Scotting, managing director of Scott’s Developments. “Seeing the scaffolding going up in the main atrium of the building is a huge milestone,” says Scotting. “We’ve spent thousands of hours researching, planning and discussing what we want to do at Steel City House so to actually get started with this first phase of work is hugely rewarding.”

Continues John: “Over the coming months, we will reconfigure the entire ground floor of the building to open up the grand, double height feature reception and create a business café offering flexible meeting space which will lead to the striking new atrium.

“The building will be made fully DDA compliant and accessible for disabled people. Two glass lifts will be installed in the atrium, complete with linking bridges, to create flexible floor plates that can either remain at over 10,000 sq ft or subdivide according to a tenant’s requirements.

“The newly built fifth and sixth floors will provide panoramic views of the city, both through the floor-to-ceiling glazing and on extensive external terraces. Future tenants will benefit from flexible, modern, open plan space in a beautiful listed building in the heart of the city featuring the latest “fast lane” access system, CCTV, on-site security and extensive cycle parking with showers and changing facilities.”

Concludes Scotting: “Sheffield is crying out for high specification, Grade A office space and that’s exactly what we will deliver with Steel City House. Keep watching this space!”
