Contractor chosen for phase one of £107m Warrington regeneration scheme
North West building group Construction Partnership UK Ltd (CPUK) has been appointed to deliver the first stage of Warrington’s £107m Bridge Street Regeneration Project.
Warrington Borough Council chose the Skelmersdale-headquartered firm to create the new 25,500 sq ft structural retail shell of the multi-million pound scheme.
CPUK’s managing director, Steve Burke, said of the appointment: “We are delighted to be working on The Bridge Street regeneration Project which is an ambitious investment project that will bring new retail, business and leisure facilities into the heart of Warrington.
“The construction phase of the project will bring employment opportunities for some of the local population and construction related businesses.”
He added: “As a company firmly based in the North West of England we are also very pleased to have been appointed on what is a key part of the development work taking place in the town.”
The space delivered by CPUK will become a temporary home for Warrington’s existing market in early 2017, while a permanent £10m marketing hall is constructed.
Steve Park, MD of Warrington & Co, the town’s urban regeneration partnership, said: “The appointment of CPUK marks yet another positive step forward for the Bridge Street scheme and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to source a locally based firm with such solid experience and expertise.”
The leader of Warrington Borough Council, Cllr Terry O’Neill, called CPUK’s appointment “great news” for the project.
He commented: “The construction of the temporary market is such an integral part of the Bridge Street Regeneration Project as it will provide our market traders with the setting they need to continue trading whilst WBC deliver the brand new, permanent market hall building.”
Work on the retail shell, planning consent for which was secured recently, is expected to take 35 weeks to complete.
