Plans unveiled for North East's first custom build housing scheme

A development company has announced plans to introduce a custom build housing scheme to the North East.

Plot, the London-headquartered company, has acquired ten exclusive, serviced plots in Murton, County Durham, aiming to give the public the opportunity to build their dream homes.

Director of Plot, Richard Thomas, explained: “Custom build gives buyers the opportunity to build their dream home to suit their needs and lifestyles.

“Each plot bought will have all of the infrastructure in place to build a dream home, including utilities, roads and planning permission.

“We work closely with local builders and architects to provide a support system for each buyer. When someone is interested in buying a plot, we discuss all of the necessities with them, including, but not limited to, professional fees, architects and engineers, structural warranties and building control, and funding options that are now available to self-builders.”

This support structure enables the lay person to clearly see how they can become a self-builder and achieve their dream home within their means.“

The site is to be called Village Farm, as it is situated on the former Village Farm, and will offer village-living with shops, schools, restaurants & cafes close by.

Plot’s open day, on Sunday 8th November, will give the public a chance to explore the Murton site, allowing potential buyers to find out more about the custom build and financial procedures.

The Murton project will be the company’s second custom build housing scheme in the UK, with the first successfully launched in Lancaster, Aldcliffe Yard.

Featured on current affairs programme, Panorama, earlier this year, the Lancaster project has already generated an estimated £3m for the construction industry.

Speaking about the benefits of custom build homes, Richard added: “It’s exciting designing your home from scratch and we’re so proud to help people do this.”

Plot are being assisted on the scheme by Custom Build Homes, who are part of the Buildstore Group that specialise in the self-build sector.

Custom Build Homes chief executive, Raymond Connor, said: “We believe that custom build gives house-hunters in the North East a real additional housing option and we are delighted to be working with Plot to provide essential support, guidance and advice to those embarking upon their homebuilding projects.”

“With the choice to do as much or as little as desired – with no previous self-build experience required – custom builders can create an affordable, bespoke home that ‘ticks all the boxes’ now and in the future.”

The Murton serviced plots are available to buy now, allowing buyers the chance to start working on their plots in January.
