Aurora Stockport project to create 240 jobs

Stockport Council has unveiled its multi-million pound plan to create 240 jobs by developing part of Cheadle Heath into a modern industrial park.

The council’s vision will see the former Gorsey Bank site transformed into a key employment hub, to be known as Aurora Stockport, comprising 154,500 sq ft of industrial space.

The work forms part of the council’s Investing in Stockport programme, an initiative that will bring an estimated £900m of investment, 5,000 new jobs and 1,100 additional homes to the town.

Cllr Patrick McAuley, the council’s executive member for thriving economy, said: “I am pleased to announce that the council is proceeding with the development of Aurora Stockport.

“The opportunities that this transformation will bring for both local residents and the business community are significant as well as creating well over 240 new jobs locally.”

Aurora Stockport will offer light industrial units of between 8,700 sq ft and 47,000 sq ft.

Cllr McAuley continued: “This news comes at an exciting time for our town. Work on some of our flagship regeneration developments has now begun and Holiday Inn Express has just announced they will be opening a hotel in our town centre as part of Stockport Exchange.”

Construction support services provider Carillion and global real estate firm CBRE are advising the council on the development, with CBRE appointed as the scheme’s agent.

If planning consent for Aurora Stockport is granted, construction work is due to being in Spring 2016 with the first units expected to be made available in 2017.
