Export Week: Heathrow exports value tops £48bn

The value of UK exports via Heathrow has increased 9.7% over a 12 month period as vaccines for medicine experience see almost 100% growth and Chinese demand for UK products continues to grow.

New data from Heathrow has revealed over £7bn worth of British exports travelled to China via Heathrow between August 2014 and July 2015, representing a 117% increase on the previous 12 months and over 15% of total UK export goods via Heathrow by value.

The research has been shared by the west London airport to celebrate British Export Week (9 – 13 November). The report takes the opportunity to highlight the benefits of Heathrow’s proposed expansion by saying that if the airport had ‘unconstrained capacity’, the value of Britain’s exports to China via the airport would overtake the USA as ‘the biggest destination within two years’.

North West

The data also provides a regional insight, with 72 per cent of business leaders in the North West revealing that exporting allows them to expand their business and directly hire new staff.

Chemical equipment topped the list of exports produced in the region and transported across the world, while some of the top destinations where businesses from the North West export their products to; include Germany, France and the United States.

North East

In the North East, 66% of business decision makers surveyed revealed that exporting allows them to expand their business and directly hire new staff.

Machinery such as wheels, cogs and transport equipment topped the list of exports produced in the North East and transported across the world. Some of the top destinations where businesses from the North East export their products to; including Germany, France and the United States.

Yorkshire

In Yorkshire, 63% of business decision makers in the report said that exporting allows them to grow their business and hire new staff. Chemical equipment topped the list of exports produced by Yorkshire businesses and transported across the world.

South East

In the South East, machinery such as wheels, cogs and transport equipment topped the list of exports produced by local businesses and transported across the world, while 70% of business decision makers surveyed revealed that exporting allows them to expand their business and directly hire new staff.
