Property Team Paints Positive Picture For Leeds Charity

TEAM members from city living specialist Morgans volunteered a weekend of their time to refurbish St George’s Crypt’s Armley shop and also raise money for the charity through a supermarket bag packing event.

Staff from Morgans’ offices on Dock Street in Leeds City Centre and Otley Road in Headingley, have transformed the longstanding Leeds based charity’s shop and café, which is located on Town Street in Armley, by completely decorating it, fitting new carpets and making a range of other interior improvements.

In addition, a number of Morgans’ 40-strong team spent a Saturday bag-packing at Morrisons supermarket in Guiseley, where they raised almost £900 for the charity.

St George’s Crypt is based in Leeds city centre and has been on the frontline of support for homeless, disadvantaged and vulnerable people in Leeds and its surrounding areas since 1930.

Jonathan Morgan, Managing Director of Morgans, says: “It was incredibly heartening to see so many of our team give up their own time and get involved with such a worthwhile cause. Everyone really enjoyed it and at the end of the weekend, it was hugely rewarding to stand back and see how by working as a team, our hard work could make such a positive difference so quickly.

“As a successful Leeds based business, we’re in a great position to be able to lend our support to those people in the City who could benefit from a leg-up and some help. St George’s Crypt is often the first port of call for homeless and disadvantage people in Leeds and after working with them for more than 10 years, we’re delighted that we can still come up with new and creative ways to support them.”

Martin Patterson from St George’s Crypt, says: “Our Armley shop and café are both hugely popular and welcome thousands of customers every week so they provide a very valuable income stream for us. Jonathan and his team have been key supporters of ours for many years and it just goes to show how many hands make light work! They’ve done a fantastic job and we’ve been inundated with positive feedback from our customers about the work they’ve done.

“It was also extremely generous of the team to spend a day bag-packing for us which raised a superb sum of money. This will be invested in a wide range of new kitchen equipment which will help us to continue serving more than 300 meals a day to needy people throughout the charity.”

This summer Jonathan Morgan joined forces with St George’s Crypt to launch a new property development company with a board of directors that consists of some of the city’s leading property and construction experts. St George’s Crypt Development Company will now provide homes and community facilities for homeless and disadvantaged people throughout Leeds. Other directors include Mark Henderson from Brewster Bye Architects, renowned quantity surveyor and project manager Richard Cavadino, Joel Owen from The Joseph Rowntree Foundation, Maggie Gjessing, Executive Regeneration Manager at Leeds City Council and Reverend Jonathan Clark from St George’s Church.

Morgans manages the largest rentals portfolio of apartments in the City which range in price from £475 to over £2,000 per calendar month. The firm also has a dedicated corporate arm dealing with businesses relocating staff to Leeds and a highly experienced sales division marketing apartments priced between £110,000 and £725,000.
