Cheshire property firm ploughs £15m into Northern Quarter transformation

A Cheshire-based property company has finished work on a £15m transformation project in the heart of Manchester’s Northern Quarter.

Property investor and developer Agecroft Investments will fulfil a long-term strategy to revamp Edge Street as it completes Bollin House, a six-storey building comprising 14 apartments and ground-level retail space.

Agecroft decided to build Bollin House after seeing all 31 apartments at its nearby Agecroft House snapped up by eager tenants.

Fraser Westbrook, Agecroft Investments’ MD, said: “We’re a genuinely long-term investor in Edge Street and the wider Northern Quarter having owned certain properties there for more than 50 years.

“Our strategic vision has allowed us to create a thriving and exciting community at the heart of the ongoing regeneration of the Northern Quarter as a hub for alternative culture including the music, fashion and creative industries.”

He added: “We’ll continue to show our commitment to the area’s immediate and longer term prospects with further financial investments.”

The firm has drawn a number of restaurants to set up shop on Edge Street, including vegan junk food vendor V Revolution, which relocated from nearby Oldham Street to join Parisian-style brasserie 63 Degrees and fried chicken restaurant Yard and Coop.

Properties on Edge Street are managed by Manchester firm Scanlans Property Management.

Scanlans partner Ian Stanistreet commented: “The Northern Quarter is now firmly established as one of the most popular parts of Manchester and Edge Street is at the very heart of it.

“Scanlans have acted on behalf of Agecroft for over 25 years and have seen many changes in the area.”

He continued: “These are exciting times for the Northern Quarter and we are delighted to have advised Agecroft throughout the investment programme.”
