Kind-hearted UK Coffee supplier rijo42 is using coffee to help fight cancer.
rijo42 are set to raise £42,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support thanks to the help of its generous client base. rijo actively promoted Macmillan’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ to their extensive client base and donated free coffee beans to those who had agreed to hold a Coffee Morning. Rijo are now close to their target having raised £38,398.85 so far for the charity.
The Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event, where businesses and individuals from across the UK hold a coffee morning and raise money in different ways for people suffering with cancer. In 2013, 154,000 people signed up to hold a coffee morning, raising a record £20 million.
Amy Marsden, Fundraising Manager at rijo42 explained: “Cancer charities have always been particularly close to our hearts at rijo42 and we have supported Macmillan for many years, feeling a particular affiliation with this wonderful charity due to a shared common interest; coffee.
“We’re incredibly proud to be officially affiliated with Macmillan and are hoping for the early success of this partnership to continue for many years. By pledging to raise £42,000 for 2015 we will be able to fund a Macmillan nurse for 42 weeks, providing expert care and invaluable support to families and individuals living with Cancer.”
The success of the Macmillan/rijo coffee mornings forms part of rijo42’s ongoing charitable work through their registered charity rijo Promises. Established in November 2007, the initial goal was to raise 20k for Breast Cancer Care, however the charity has been able to support a myriad of charities.
To date, ‘rijo Promises’ has raised in excess of £500k for a variety of fantastic charities such as, Breast Cancer Care, Macmillan Cancer Support, Children in Need, Comic Relief, Sport Relief, The British Heart Foundation, Joining Jack, Parkinsons UK, Bolton Hospice, St Gemma’s Hospice and Royal Bolton Hospital.
Rebecca Wynne, Macmillan’s Head of Regional Fundraising, commented on rijo’s fundraising efforts: “We are absolutely delighted by the amazing amount raised by rijo42 and their customers in the first year of our partnership. The money raised so far this year really will make a massive difference to the lives of people living with cancer across the UK and we look forward to working with rijo42 long term to help make sure no one faces cancer alone.”
