Coventry junior football team awarded £1,000 by leading housebuilder

Sports-mad youngsters from Coventry will be on the ball for their first ever experience of football after receiving a cash boost from a leading housebuilder.

Coventry Copsewood’s under six team has been selected as one of Persimmon Homes Central’s Community Champions, receiving £1,000 as the latest winner of the community campaign. The project sees a pot of £24,000 donated to local groups and charities, who can apply for funding each month.

Coventry Copsewood will use the donation to purchase training and away kits, new goals and other equipment for their first season of matches.

Craig Yates, joint manager along with Daniel Perkins, said: “We are delighted that Persimmon Homes Central has chosen to support us and it will make a huge difference to the team.

“It is the first experience the lads have had of playing football in a team and they can’t wait for all the training sessions and matches.

“Persimmon’s donation will ensure the lads have all the right kit for training and matches.

Coventry Copsewood has more than 20 junior teams and the under sixes are the academy, so it’s a great opportunity for them to get their first taste of football before progressing through the age groups.“

Amanda Benjamin, head of sales at Persimmon Homes Central, said: “We are delighted to select Coventry Copsewood’s under sixes as part of our Community Champions initiative. Any football club is a big part of the community and it’s fantastic to see children start playing so young.

“Persimmon Homes Central has had a fantastic response to its Community Champions scheme and it is always a difficult task to pick our winners each month.

“If applicants were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”

Persimmon has a range of homes and apartments available on its Weavers Gate and Weavers Wharf sites in Coventry. Persimmon Homes has invested heavily in Coventry in the last year, building 1,144 new homes in total, with 344 of those at Weavers Gate and 12 at Weavers Wharf.

Community Champions is a year-long programme with £750,000 to be spread across the housebuilder’s 26 regions in the UK. Groups and charities who have already worked hard to raise funds themselves can apply for match funding of up to £1,000.
