New director increases project management expertise at Caulmert

Engineering, environmental and planning consultancy Caulmert has increased its expertise in project management after appointing an additional director.

Chris Davies has joined the Altrincham-based firm in the role of director of project management as part of an intensive recruitment campaign.

Chris, 46, has more than 25 years’ experience in the construction sector, and was formerly business director at professional support service firm Capita. Prior to that he was head of property and assets at Denbighshire County Council, where he led an 80-strong team of professional, technical and support staff managing the local authority’s property portfolio.

Previous roles have also included managing private and public construction projects for clients such as the Welsh Government, DWP, Ministry of Defence, Gwrp Llandrillo Coleg, Superdrug and Lidl.

Chris’ appointment forms part of a wider recruitment drive at Caulmert to meet its predicted growth. The firm doubled its turnover to more than £2m over the last 12 months.

Chris said: “Caulmert has provided a great opportunity for me to focus on project management and reinforce this aspect of the business.

“I’ll be taking a hands-on role with a number of projects and sharing my experience with the rest of the team.

“I’m looking forward to playing a part in both continuing the company’s growth and developing the skills-base of the workforce here.”

Chris is also the chair of Construction Excellence in Wales, North Wales Best Practice Club, which promotes excellence in the built environment through collaborative working and provides a forum for individuals and organisations to learn about and share best practices.

Caulmert is recruiting for several other skilled positions, including infrastructure and structural engineers, structural detailers, and town planners.

Founded in 2009, the firm is on track to meet an ambitious 15-year growth plan that would see it employ 250 people by 2024.

Its expertise in a variety of planning and engineering disciplines is supported by its use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) to a level 2 standard in many of its projects.
