Walking the extra mile for wildlife
Clients from The Pottergate Centre in Alnwick, a Northumberland County Council day centre providing therapeutic activities for adults with learning and physical disabilities in North Northumberland, organised and participated in a 50 minute sponsored walk around Alnwick Gardens for Northumberland Wildlife Trust, and raised a whopping £481.80 along the way.
The money has now been handed over to the wildlife charity, which is currently constructing its new Wildlife Discovery Centre, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) on its Hauxley nature reserve on Dynamic Bay.
The money will be spent on a new window - The Pottergate Window - and will be unveiled by the wildlife walkers once the new centre is completed, over the summer of 2016, and who knows, they may even head off on another sponsored walk around the reserve.
A delighted Alex Lister, Northumberland Wildlife Trust Druridge Bay Reserves Manager, took time out from co-ordinating the new building project, to collect the sponsor money at the Pottergate Centre, he said: “A walk round Alnwick Gardens by these wonderful walkers has created a lasting legacy - The Pottergate Window, and, in years to come, they will be able to look at the new Wildlife Discovery Centre and say “I helped to create that.”
If any other organisations, community groups or companies would like their own unique window named after them for the starting price of £500, Alex would love to hear from you so why not contact him at: alex.lister@nortwt.org.uk You can follow the progress of the build via Facebook at www.facebook.com/HauxleyNatureReserve
