UCLan sheds light on £200m Preston campus transformation

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) has offered a new insight into how Preston might be transformed over the next decade.

An audience of honorary fellows, local business representatives and students at a Best of UCLan event on Thursday (November 20) watched a new ‘flythrough’ video that showed how the campus will change as different stages in the university’s £200m master plan come to fruition.

The CG imagery also revealed how the redevelopment will integrate with Preston.

UCLan pro chancellor David Taylor, who is the chair of the university board, said: “The Campus Masterplan is perhaps our most exciting and transformative development yet.

“Along with our development partners at Lancashire County Council and Preston City Council our aim is to integrate the development seamlessly with the rest of the city, boosting inward investment to benefit current and future generations of students, staff, visitors and the wider community.”

He continued: “The project is so complex and far reaching that at present it’s difficult to visualise the finished scheme and the way it will enhance the city.”

The centrepiece of the development is the £30m-plus Engineering Innovation Centre (EIC), which is due for completion in Spring 2018.

Identified as a key project in the government’s Growth Deal programme, the EIC was awarded £10.5m through the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership.
