New gin bar set to open its doors in Sunderland
Gin & Bear It, a new bar which stocks more than 40 different gins, will open its doors in Sunderland later this week.
The new venture is the brainchild of Sean Maddison and Helen Davies, owner of Bar Justice in Sunderland and organiser of the city’s first ever Sunniside Live festival this summer.
Sean said: “We were keen to build on the interest and buzz surrounding Sunniside since the festival. “Getting the bar ready has been a lot of hard work because we had to fully install a new cellar and completely revamp the interior, but we think it’s worth it.
“We’ve spent a considerable amount of time sourcing a great range of gins, tonic and botanicals that will make up our new menu and we can’t wait until opening night.”
The venue will open at High Street West, Sunniside, on Friday November 27.
The site, formerly 200 High Street, has been given a complete makeover and designed to offer a more relaxed atmosphere, in keeping with the area’s growing nightlife scene. The bar will also sell a range of cocktails, craft beers, ales and wines.
Ken Dunbar, Chief Executive of Sunderland’s Business Improvement District, said: “It’s always great to see new bars and restaurants opening in the city centre because it helps to attract new people to the area.
“Sunniside is such a beautiful part of Sunderland and it’s businesses like Gin and Bear It which really help us to show that off.”
Gin and Bear It will open from 4pm until 4am on Fridays and from 12pm until 4am on Saturdays, starting November 27.
