JRI Orthopaedics scoops triple awards success

Yorkshire healthcare company JRI Orthopaedics is celebrating a trio of wins at the prestigious North of England Excellence Awards.

The Sheffield-based company was named Business of the Year, scooped the North of England Excellence Award as well as the special category International Trade Award.

Chief Executive Keith Jackson said: “I am delighted that JRI Orthopaedics has been recognised with three prestigious awards.

“We have a strong company culture, we never rest on our laurels and we are constantly improving everything we do.

“These awards represent the results of a tremendous team effort over the last twelve months to develop the business and expand our international sales.”

JRI Orthopaedics, which employs 115 people, has world-class expertise in the design, development and manufacture of orthopaedic implants and surgical instruments.

Operating from a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Chapeltown, it recently broke into the Chinese market securing a contract to produce hip replacement implants for a Beijing-based medical company. It is also hoping to have its own hip replacement products registered for sale in China early next year.

North of England Excellence (NoEE) is a non-profit making organization that exists to enhance the performance and competitiveness of the northern economy by inspiring, supporting, and recognising excellence.

The 21st NoEE awards ceremony was held at The Royal Armouries, Leeds, and attended by around 400 leading businesses and organisations from across Yorkshire.

Chief Executive Andrew Palmer said: “Our awards celebrate excellence across the North and, in a hugely competitive field this year, for JRI Orthopaedics to win three accolades is a truly outstanding achievement.

“JRI is proof that companies operating in the Northern Powerhouse region have a readiness to be best in class, run outstanding operations and, more importantly, achieve sustainable results.

“Its ongoing success is also testament to the fact that business excellence not only improves quality and performance but also benefits the bottom line.”

JRI Orthopaedics has a long-established reputation for pioneering innovations and is wholly owned by a charity, Orthopaedic Research UK (ORUK). The company Gift Aids the majority of its profits to ORUK to fund independent research and medical education - £12m over the last 10 years alone.

Earlier this year the company also scooped the coveted marquee prize at the 2015 Made In Sheffield Awards and in September achieved Investors In People Gold status.
