Planning permission granted for 80 new North Yorkshire homes

Harrogate Metropolitan Borough Council has given planning permission to Evans Property for the creation of up to 80 new homes in the village of Tockwith, North Yorkshire.

The redundant 9.6 acre site is located at the south western edge of the village of Tockwith, which is identified in the Council’s Core Strategy as a sustainable location capable of accommodating additional housing.

The proposals aim to assist Harrogate Borough Council in continuing to meet its housing needs and will cover a broad mix of housing types and sizes to deliver a mixed and balanced community for Tockwith.

It is anticipated that some 120 new jobs could be created at the construction peak of the development.

Formerly part of Tockwith Airfield, the site is accessed off Southfield Lane and provides good pedestrian linkages to the centre of the village and its services. Evans Property Group’s proposals include provision for new areas of amenity and a series of green, recreation spaces for use by future residents.

Comments provided through the local consultation event highlighted a localised issue with uncontrolled parking along Southfield Lane in and around the Primary School during school drop-off and pick-up times. In order to formalise the current parking arrangements and to increase provision, the development also includes for a dedicated offsite parking area on the southern side of Southfield Lane opposite the School, providing additional benefits to road safety and local highway capacity.

Alan Syers, portfolio Director at Evans Property Group, said: “We are delighted to have been given the green light to transform this strategic site into a high quality housing development to help meet local needs and support the viability and vitality of Tockwith village.

“The plans evolved through engagement with local stakeholders, officers at the Council and local residents resulting in a scheme which adopts good design principles and responds positively to local characteristics. We are looking forward to implementing our proposed scheme in due course.”
