Swindon Shock Wheelchair Basketball Club net £1,000 funding

A wheelchair basketball club is celebrating after netting a share of £24,000.

Swindon Shock Wheelchair Basketball Club has been handed £1,000 from Persimmon Homes Wessex as part of the builder’s Community Champions programme.

The club will use the funding to launch a project that gives disabled children from low income and disadvantaged families access to wheelchair basketball.

“The project ensures we reach out to the most disadvantaged children in society,” said Ben Humphrey, Chairperson at the club. “We also aim to increase disability awareness in an engaging way by holding wheelchair basketball sports sessions in local schools. The funding from Persimmon will help us continue the work we have done by giving children of all ages and abilities the chance to participate in the sport.”

Pauline Fletcher, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes Wessex, said: “This is a fantastic club with passionate and dedicated coaches and players. It is so encouraging to see children develop crucial life skills and build the confidence they need to succeed in school and live independently.”

Persimmon Homes Wessex gifted Swindon Shock Wheelchair Basketball Club the donation as part of the builder’s Community Champions scheme; a £24,000 fund to help support local clubs, groups and good causes.

Pauline added: “We’ve made it really simple to apply for funding, and we’re now urging people to apply for next month’s allocation by completing a form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.”
