NECC Event up for two UK Event Awards

Gala Dinner celebration nominated for two UK Event Awards

The North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC) hopes to end its celebratory bicentenary year with a bang after being shortlisted for two awards in this year’s UK Event Awards.

The region’s largest business membership organisation has been shortlisted for two awards - Corporate Event of the Year and Small Event of the Year – after its unforgettable Gala Dinner marking its 200 year anniversary.

Representatives from NECC, Durham Cathedral, Durham University and Heathrow Airport will be traveling to the capital where the winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Marriott Grosvenor Square Hotel on Wednesday evening.

Over 800 members of the region’s business community attended the NECC’s Gala dinner in September at Durham Cathedral and Palace Green to celebrate the Chamber’s 200th anniversary celebrations.

It was the culmination of special events held throughout the year and included a special performance from Durham Cathedral Choristers, a video message from Prime Minister David Cameron and words from guest speaker The Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation & Skills.

NECC Chief Executive James Ramsbotham, said: “It was a privilege to be of this event and celebrate 200 years of NECC with our members. We’re extremely grateful to our sponsors and patrons who made the evening possible.

“Our members are what make NECC. The pioneers and innovators, manufacturers and creators, and the brightest beacons of business talent who stand alongside us, and we’d be delighted to have our celebration recognised on the national stage.

“Our Gala Dinner demonstrated that the North East business community is as vibrant now as it ever has been and we have more to look forward to than to look back upon.”

The UK Event Awards recognise and reward the very best of Britain’s events industry and are open to event organisers, suppliers and marketers.

NECC’s Gala Dinner was made possible due to the generous support of event sponsors Heathrow Airport and UK Trade & Investment. NECC is proud to be supported by anniversary patrons Virgin Money, Port of Tyne, Newcastle International Airport, Gateshead College, Northumbrian Water and Sage.
