Phoenix Taxis completes hat-trick of awards

Phoenix Taxis, the largest electric and hybrid taxi firm in the UK, has scooped a raft of accolades in three separate awards during November.

Managing Director, 27-year-old Alex Hurst, won Best Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award with the FSB.

The Blyth-based company was also given the Green Business of the Year Award at this year’s Northumberland Business Awards and scooped Best Private Hire Company Award at the Professional Driver QSi Awards.

Under his leadership, Alex has more than trebled the company turnover from £1.6m to £4.2m since 2011 and his entrepreneurial spirit and achievements were recognised at the first FSB Business Awards for the north east of England.

He said: “I’m over the moon and very proud to have won these awards. We have won a lot of awards over the years, but to win this hat-trick of awards is really very special. To be named Young Entrepreneur of the Year is a true honour and privilege.”

Phoenix Taxis’ commitment to sustainability was recognised by the Northumberland Business Awards, which are dedicated to recognising and the achievements of the outstanding companies in Northumberland. The judges were impressed with the way Alex runs a hugely successful business while still managing to place considerable emphasis on green issues.

Alex said: “In our business, being green isn’t something that is mandatory, but it is something that we feel passionately about and is important to us. Being green is about improving the environment, rather than purely business needs. This is just the start for us, we want to be totally electric by 2018.”

Phoenix Taxis also took the Gold Award for Private Hire Company of the Year 2015 with the Professional Driver QSi Awards, which recognise private hire operators that demonstrate excellent standards of quality, service and innovation.

The company has been serving the region for over 30 years, providing a range of services to customers, from single-person shopping trips, to the private driver experience for special occasions and corporate clients.
