CAROYLYN McCALL BECOMES FIRST WOMAN TO WIN MOST ADMIRED BUSINESS LEADER AWARD

Sponsored by Kinetic Communications

Carolyn McCall, CEO of Easyjet will be awarded Most Admired Leader of the Year as voted by her peers this evening (3 Dec 2015) as part of Management Today’s awards.

Now in its twenty-fifth year, McCall is the first woman to receive the accolade of ‘most admired boss’.

“I hope this will inspire more women and that they will want to be in business and to do it their way, be leaders of companies in their way,” says Carolyn McCall. “Man or woman, it’s an honour to get an award like this. I’ve never underestimated how important it is to be a role model for women but I prefer to do that quietly rather than loudly.”

Sponsored by Kinetic Communications, founder and managing director, Angela Podmore says, “Carolyn McCall richly deserves this award because anyone of us who has flown Easyjet knows they have a reputation for keeping their promises – easy and affordable travel with friendly service.

“That’s key as consumer expectations climb to stratospheric levels. It seems all Easyjet’s customers approve. After five years in post, Easyjet’s numbers speak for themselves of Carolyn’s cool handing in stormy business weather: profits are up to record levels, the share price has quadrupled and MORI says her colleagues are probably her biggest fans[i].

“Her leadership sets Easyjet’s moral compass and is turning it into a world-beater. She’s the architect of why people trust Easyjet and vote for it with their cash and she’s so understated about it all, crediting her team at every turn,” says Angela.

The Management Today Britain’s Most Admired Companies research is the largest peer review of its kind and is conducted by Prof Mike Brown of Leeds Beckett and previously Birmingham City University.

Simon Wolfson of Next and Andy Street of John Lewis Partnership came second and third respectively in the Most Admired Leader category.

Unilever was voted the Most Admired Company and has featured in the top 20 for every year since the study began in 1990.

The awards will be presented at Claridges in London.
