Medical specialist expands into training
A COMPANY created to provide critical medical gas services to hospitals and laboratories is providing a new service to customers.
As well as providing vital services to healthcare facilities and labs throughout the region and beyond, Opus Medigas has now become a training provider.
It has recently delivered a week-long course which results in participants achieving a Medical Gas Competent Person qualification, which allows those qualified to install and maintain medical gas infrastructure.
The course was delivered at Opus Medigas’s offices in Boldon and was attended by five members of staff from a Gateshead hospital, as well as three members of the company’s own team.
The training was provided in partnership with BOC Healthcare.
Opus Medigas Managing Director Bryan Wood-Laine said the qualification was necessary to anyone working in the field: “It has to be renewed every three years and the nearest place to deliver the qualification used to be in Birmingham, so in providing the training, we’re saving hospitals both time and money.
“It’s an additional service we can offer healthcare facilities and we’re going to be offering the training to hospitals across the region. The training can be tailored to the needs of the hospital and we can deliver either ‘competent person’ or ‘authorised person’ training. The course is BTEC accredited and Brian Armstrong, who delivered the course for us, has been with BOC Healthcare for 21 years.
Opus Medigas designs, supplies and installs gas delivery systems and equipment needed to get medical gas to patients in medical settings or laboratories where similar gases are used. The company was launched late last year by directors Gavin Richardson and Bryan.
Bryan had a successful career in sales, helping and advising health and laboratory establishments across the North of England.
