Stockport company donate defib to University of Salford

Leading manufacturers Cardiac Science, based in Stockport have donated an automated external defibrillator (AED) to the University of Salford.

The donation was made last week at The Future of Health and Safety Conference 2015, held by Salford Professional Development, the wholly-owned subsidiary to the University of Salford.

The conference aimed to explore the government’s vision for the future of health and safety.

The class-leading G5 AED was presented by Cardiac Science UK Corporate Manager Richard Macdonald.

He commented: “We are keen to support the second annual Future of Health and Safety Conference. Donating a defibrillator sends out an important health and safety message, and will also provide a legacy of protection for the university.”

The AED will be located on the university campus and will give access to the life-saving device for everyone on campus, for people passing through the main A6 and Adelphi Street thoroughfare and visitors to the popular Pint Pot pub, which is situated close by.

The university, which has a daily footfall of approximately 9,000, includes a highly regarded School of Nursing, Midwifery Social Work and Social Sciences, who will have access to the device for state-of-the-art CPR training.

To support the AED donation, Sara Harris from North West Ambulance Service Service will be registering the defibrillator on their system so the AED can be used for public access.

David Hall, Chief Operating Officer at the Salford Professional Development, says: “We are extremely grateful for the donation of a defibrillator. It will provide students, staff and visitors with peace of mind that should the worst happen, we can provide assistance.”

David continued: “The defib is also a timely reminder for delegates of this year’s Future of Health and Safety Conference that heart safety is an important part of any health and safety plan.”
