Grant Thornton staff support Leeds Mencap with Christmas gifts
This Christmas, the team at Grant Thornton’s Leeds office is supporting its local Mencap branch, the charity which supports children and adults with learning disabilities, by donating gifts for the children it helps.
The firm is aiming to collect 75 toys for some of the 300 families to which Leeds Mencap provides long-term support on a weekly basis.
The charity advises, supports and offers practical help to the whole family through a range of activities including youth clubs, play schemes, a residential home, a family support centre and through its Young Ambassadors Programme, all with the aim of helping to improve lives and opportunities for people with learning disabilities.
“Being a completely independent charity, the support of local businesses like Grant Thornton plays a very important part in the services we provide to families across Leeds,” said Dinah Beckett, Leeds Mencap’s Youth Services Manager. “We’re really grateful to the team for their generosity, the toys will help brighten Christmas morning for many of the children we work with. On behalf of Leeds Mencap and the families we support, I’d like to say a big thank you.”
Andy Wood, practice leader for Grant Thornton in Leeds, comments: “Many of our team donate their time and skills to a wide range of community projects throughout the year, but at Christmas time we like to spread some seasonal goodwill by giving some extra support to a particular charity. It’s especially rewarding to be able to help a smaller, local charity, knowing that the kindness of our staff will make a real difference.”
