Cheshire hotel sold to Wirral restaurateur in six-figure deal

A restauranteur on the Wirral has acquired Brook Meadow Country House Hotel, near Ellesmere Port, for £950k.

The site’s new owner, Helen Demetrious, has an investment strategy in place to develop the hotel into a refurbished restaurant, bar and wedding venue.

Helen, who owns Sheldrakes restaurant in Lower Heswall, plans to launch the revamped business in 2016.

She commented: “The hotel industry may have suffered greatly in the recession but this fantastic acquisition gives me the opportunity to create a vision for the hotel, turning it into something new and exciting for the future.

“Brook Meadow shall be revitalised not just as a hotel but as a tavern because I plan to create a fantastic inn called The Drunken Monk, taking the inn back to the time when monks called Brook Meadow their home with open fires, local produce and beers from microbreweries.”

Helen continued: “The refurbishment is not limited to the inn because the Great Hall will also undergo a transformation, making it the boutique wedding venue for 2016 and a tourist attraction and superior venue on the Wirral.”

Brook Meadow is surrounded by a three-acre landscaped garden in Childer Thornton. The property comprises 25 en-suite bedrooms, a lounge and bar, conservatory and a dining room. The site also houses four function suites with room for up to 200 guests.

First constructed as a family home in the 1800s, the site was used by monks in the 1960s before becoming a hotel in 1983.

Neil Thomson, a Manchester-based associate director with Colliers International, secured the deal on behalf of Adiwell Ltd, the hotel’s former owner.

Neil commented: “The sale ofBrook Meadow reflects significantly improved activity in the hotel, guest house and hospitality sectors generally and in Merseyside in particular.

“Increased demand from buyers has been stimulated by the growing trend of banks being keen to lend to the sector, thereby aiding those hotel operators wishing to sell.”
