Funding boost for regional community projects

Two worthy regional organisations are celebrating after being selected to receive community funding.

Winchester Live at Home Scheme and Pompey in the Community are the latest recipients of Persimmon Homes South Coast’s Community Champions donations.

The year-long scheme provides two grants of up to £1,000 each month to local groups which enhance their neighbourhoods.

Matt Paine, managing director of Persimmon Homes South Coast, said: “As a company we are committed to supporting the small charities, clubs and organisations that operate near to our new homes developments. When ordinary people are giving up their time to improve their communities, they deserve our thanks and our backing.”

Winchester Live at Home Scheme is a small local charity that aims to provide support and friendship for older people, to help maintain their independence and reduce feelings of social isolation. Five part time staff and more than 100 volunteers support 315 members, offering a range of weekly activities.

While the service is subsidised, members do pay a contribution, so Persimmon’s donation will help to ensure all those who want to take part are able to, regardless of their financial situation. Anyone wanting to know more about Winchester Live at Home Scheme can visit www.wlahs.org

The award-winning Pompey in the Community charity harnesses the motivational power of Portsmouth Football Club to promote education, healthy living and sporting participation among vulnerable and disadvantaged people.

Persimmon’s Community Champions funding will be used to support publication of The PUP, a programme produced by and for children in workshops that focus on literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
