Teesside hosts Mexican visit to showcase oil and gas expertise
Oil and gas industry opportunities were discussed as firms Unasys and the Wilton Group recently hosted a Mexican business delegation on Teesside.
Coordinated by NOF Energy and UKTI, the visit was part of moves to promote the strengths of the UK oil and gas industry, together with the strong links between academia, business and government that foster innovation and exports.
Along with visits to both Unasys in Middlesbrough and Wilton Group across the River Tees in Port Clarence, the visit will also include tours of the new £20m STEM Centre at Middlesbrough College.
Led by Enrique Cornejo, Head of Energy and Environment for UKTI Mexico, the Mexican delegation included journalists from leading Mexican newspapers and business associations.
Having recently attended a NOF Energy-organised Northern Powerhouse trade mission to Mexico, Unasys Managing Director Mick Flynn made a presentation to the visitors.
Providing commissioning and completions management solutions to the process industry, Unasys have been involved in a range of diverse projects across Europe, Asia and the Americas, including oil and gas plants, wind farms and offshore platforms.
They are now keen to tap into the potentially lucrative Mexican market.
Mr Flynn said: “As a leading completions and commissioning company, Unasys were delighted to host a delegation from Mexico at our operation in Boho One.
“This was not only an excellent opportunity for us but for Middlesbrough too. We used the visit to highlight the strengths of Teesside’s oil and gas industry service providers.
“2015 is ‘The Year of Mexico in the UK and UK in Mexico’, and I see Mexico as a great opportunity both now and over the coming years, due to the significant deep water discoveries in the oil and gas sector and also major onshore infrastructure projects.”
