Christmas cheer in Middlesbrough!

Local residents of Runswick House in Middlesbrough were treated to a morning of festive fun last week and were even joined by the man himself, Santa.

Shopping vouchers were up for grabs at the event, with the residents enjoying a dance and a Christmas sing-a-long before the raffle was drawn.

The residents were invited along to the free Christmas raffle from The Riverside Group and Gentoo Construction, as a thanks for their patience and cooperation whilst the construction of a new four storey building continues on the estate.

Kay Charville, Project Support Officer for Riverside, said: “The local community have been fantastic in supporting us during the build and this was a way of us giving something back and saying thanks. The build is coming along really well and we’re looking forward to completion.”

Gentoo Construction won the new contract worth £3m to build a supported housing facility on behalf of its client The Riverside Group back in August of this year.

David Dixon, Head of Customer Services at Gentoo Construction, said: “We understand how difficult it can be for residents living so close to a live construction site and this small gesture from ourselves and Riverside is just one of the ways we can show our appreciation to the local community and a nice way to kick-off the Christmas celebrations.”

The site on Grange Road in Middlesbrough has been developed by Riverside to provide a supported residential building, comprising of 20 self-contained flats of the highest quality of social housing, along with training facilities to support people into employment.

The new four storey building replaces a disused commercial building that currently stands in its place.

Other facilities within the scheme include a training kitchen where residents can learn about healthy eating and budgeting, IT training facilities and an interview room.

Work on site began in July and the scheme is due for completion in August 2016.
