Miss Newcastle on hand to open rebranded 140 year old Newcastle hotel
The Thistle Newcastle County Hotel has embarked on a new era, becoming part of the Mercure brand and now operating as Mercure Newcastle County Hotel.
One of the oldest hotels in the city, the Grade II listed Victorian hotel first opened in 1874. Located directly opposite Newcastle Central Station, the hotel will undergo a multi-million pound investment programme.
The rebrand of the hotel was celebrated with an appearance by Vicky Turner, Miss Newcastle 2015 (pictured above), who officially opened the hotel under the Mercure Newcastle County Hotel name. This week guests can expect to see the roll out of the new brand across the hotel.
Anna Wadcock, General Manager of the hotel, said: “This is an exciting time for the hotel and we are delighted to become part of such an impressive brand.
“In joining Mercure we are able to build on the high quality offering we already provide our guests, along with the introduction of several new benefits including the Le Club AccorHotels Loyalty Programme and AccorHotels Business Account.
“The planned improvements to the hotel will also significantly enhance our existing facilities for both overnight visitors, meetings and event customers and local people using our fantastic restaurant and bar.”
Mercure Newcastle County Hotel offers 114 bedrooms, which include a junior suite and nine privilege bedrooms. The first floor is dedicated to ten flexible meeting rooms, including the stain glass wall lined County Suite and oak-panelled Mozart Suite; the largest of which can accommodated up to 220 people. A new cocktail menu will also be coming to the hotel’s RendezVous Restaurant and Bar located on the ground floor, for guests and locals to enjoy.
Anna added: “We’re excited to continue our 140 year history of bringing outstanding hospitality and service to our guests as part of the Mercure family.”
