Phase two will see Morris & Spottiswood create an additional six retail units by the end of May next

Morris & Spottiswood to deliver £1.2m retail refit at Edinburgh Airport

Morris & Spottiswood, the Cheshire-based fit-out contractor, has secured a contract worth £1.2m to revamp part of Edinburgh Airport.

The firm’s project manager, Scott Ramsay, confirmed that the work involves the redevelopment of the existing retail offer at the airport’s departures lounge.

Scott said: “We were tasked with stripping out the existing duty free and retail area and reconfiguring it into smaller retail units for Boots, WHSmith and World Duty Free.

“As part of the project we are removing old ceramic tiles, configuring sprinkler systems to allow individual unit control and putting in new ventilation systems and chilled water systems.”

In the second phase of the project, Morris & Spottiswood expects to create an additional six retail units by the end of May next year.

Airport contracts are a key growth area for the Warrington firm, with others including healthcare, retail, commercial offices, banking and education.

Discussing the project at Edinburgh Airport further, Scott said much of the work will be carried out at night to minimise disruption for passengers and employees.

Scott continued: “Working in an airport presents a number of unique challenges. For instance, anyone who works in an airport has to go through a rigorous vetting procedure.

“Then there is the logistical challenge of transporting the materials we need for our projects across the airport campus.”

He added: “Adapting to the airport environment and ensuring that we adhere to all the rules and regulations has been key.”

Alongside Scott Ramsay, Morris & Spottiswood deployed two site managers, three site supervisors, an M&E project manager and an administrator to Edinburgh Airport, all of whom will remain in the city for the duration of the revamp.
