Hertfordshire charity secures cash injection

A charity that uses design and engineering to transform the lives of those with disabilities has been handed a cash boost from a leading UK housebuilder. DEMAND was selected as one of Persimmon Homes North London’s Community Champions, a scheme that awards £1,000 to further the charity’s work within the community. The project sees a pot of £24,000 donated to local groups and charities.

The charity, which stands for Design and Manufacture for Disability, works with some of the most vulnerable and socially isolated people in society, striving to address the needs of severely disabled children and adults.

Denise Gillies, fundraising manager at DEMAND, said: “We are so thankful to Persimmon Homes North London for this generous donation, one that will greatly help with the work we do at our charity.

“DEMAND creates bespoke technical solutions to everyday living challenges that are encountered by the people we work with.

“Our clients range in age from pre-school babies and toddlers to retirement age and beyond. Their difficulties also span the full disability spectrum, with the majority struggling to cope with debilitating conditions such as arthritis, cerebral palsy and multiple sclerosis.”

Greg Kaye, head of sales at Persimmon Homes North London, said: “We are delighted to be rewarding DEMAND with a donation of £1,000, to help out many disadvantaged people in the Hertfordshire area.

“Persimmon Homes North London has had a fantastic response to its Community Champions scheme and it is always a tricky task to pick our winners each month.

“If applicants were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”

Community Champions is a year-long programme with £750,000 to be spread across the housebuilder’s 25 regions. Groups and charities who have already worked hard to raise funds themselves can apply for match funding of up to £1,000.
