TIBCO’s Connected Platform Drives Dixons Carphone’s Service Culture

Core products from TIBCO Software Inc., a global leader in integration, analytics, and event processing, have been selected by Dixons Carphone to strategically enable a service-centric IT transformation across the multinational retail group.

TIBCO products will be used to integrate a disparate range of legacy technologies and various cloud applications to capitalise on the business change opportunities created by the merger of mobile phone provider Carphone Warehouse and electrical goods giant Dixons.

The move will see the use of TIBCO solutions in the existing Carphone Warehouse service-oriented approach to IT extended across the wider organisation with TIBCO’s Fast Data platform to enable multiple systems and applications to communicate with each other and share real-time information. The result will be enhanced agility, reduced duplication, and lowered Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) while driving the quality of the online shopping experience to better align the company’s web presence with the physical store environments.

The decision by Dixons Carphone to extend usage of TIBCO products across the wider enterprise re-validates the long-standing relationship with mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse, to whom TIBCO has provided a range of integration and business process management (BPM) solutions over the past decade.

To date, efficiencies arising from TIBCO’s real-time architecture have standardised core business processes and established meaningful performance indicators, and played a key role in supporting the shift in Dixons Carphone’s organisational culture from a sales- to service-focus.

Additionally, this drive will move up a gear to address the challenges presented by the scale and diversity of both Dixons Carphone’s retail offering and technical architecture, to achieve a seamless shopping experience, which is not compromised by the different brands and channels or the disparate technology underpinning them.

Consistency around pricing, promotions, and product information will be driven while ensuring that all of the different customer requirements are met, be it contracts, warranty obligations, or support agreements. Duplication of customer information will be reduced while processes such as repairs and returns, and those involving third parties such as credit check vendors are to become more streamlined and fluid.

Reflecting on the decision to appoint TIBCO as Group Integration Partner, David Byrne, director of architecture at Dixons Carphone, alluded both to TIBCO’s strong heritage and plans for future development.

“The maturity and track record of TIBCO’s products and history with Carphone allayed any significant operational concerns we may have had, which along with the fact that we were already happy with the low Total Cost of Ownership meant we had peace of mind and could focus on implementing new functionality.”
